So, after reading brewskee’s rave about the Dark Knight Rises, I went out and saw it.  Been looking forward to it for a long time, and it was _great_.  However, I got to say, people putting it above Lord of the Rings are really far off, and it didn’t live up to that expectation.  I would still say my favorite of the trilogy was Batman Begins.  This had some amazing, unbelievable scenes and is a great film to be certain.  I cannot wait to see it again sometime, and everyone ought to go and enjoy it.  But I was slightly let down after hearing the hype, to be perfectly honest.

Invoking Lord of the Rings as a basis for comparison is against the rules.  Nothing compares (except maybe the last two or three Harry Potters, in ways).  Which is why my favorite bit about Dark Knight Rises was probably watching the trailer for the Hobbit.  :)

Let me be clear though, Dark Knight Rises is a great, great film.  Nolan and Goyer have crafted something really special here, the performances by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine and Tom Hardy are all transcendent.  It’s also a fantastic endcap to a great trilogy, and the three hours went by _fast_.  Go see it.  Just don’t think you’re going to be in for something that’s on the plane of existence that Return of the King resides on, or you will likely be disappointed a bit as I was.
